Unyte has officially wrapped up the redevelopment and realignment of the Traralgon Greyhound Track for Greyhound Racing Victoria (GRV), delivering a refreshed racing surface and upgraded infrastructure designed to keep the club running fast well into the future.
The project involved demolishing the existing track before reconstructing a realigned circuit from the ground up. Despite plenty of rain trying to slow things down, our team still crossed the finish line ahead of program.
The scope covered everything from bulk earthworks and subgrade stabilisation through to new stormwater drainage, irrigation, electrical and communications infrastructure for track lighting and dog timing systems.
In total, the team constructed 2,300 square metres of new track pavement, screened and placed 550 cubic metres of sand, installed 375 linear metres of Colourbond fencing and managed the delivery of 250 linear metres of lure rail installation.
Thinking differently on track
One of the project’s biggest wins came from thinking differently about the track sand already on site. Instead of importing entirely new material, the team developed an innovative screening and cleaning methodology that allowed the existing sand to be reused across the new track alignment. The result? Reduced material imports and a smarter long-term approach.
This same collaborative mindset carried across the entire delivery. The team worked closely with GRV throughout construction, with regular site walks, project updates and day-to-day coordination helping minimise disruption while keeping stakeholders informed every step of the way. Additionally, partnering with local suppliers and Traralgon-based subcontractors helps deliver the works, supporting local businesses while keeping the project moving efficiently.
Rain, redesigns and all hands on deck
The project also presented early design and scope challenges, but through close collaboration with GRV and project designers, the team identified practical, high-value solutions that ensured the facility was delivered as a complete and fully functional racing venue.
Behind every metre of track was a commitment to delivering a quality outcome for GRV. From navigating wet weather and additional scope items through to coordinating closely with local suppliers, subcontractors and stakeholders, the project was driven by strong collaboration from start to finish.
Now complete, the upgraded facility provides the Traralgon and surrounding communities with a modernised track designed to support the future of racing in the region creating a better experience for trainers, competitors, club members and racegoers alike.
